What a Complete Puffed Snacks Processing Line Includes

A standard puffed snacks processing line from SS Engineering Works covers the full production sequence – from raw material feeding to final flavour coating:

  • Single or twin-screw corn puff extruder – with quick-change die system for multiple shapes
  • Hot air roasting conveyor – texture development without frying oil
  • Cooling conveyor – product cooling before seasoning stage
  • Seasoning drum – controlled dry masala and liquid flavour coating
  • Flavour application drum – final uniform coating stage
  • Incline elevator – smooth product transfer between stages
  • PLC control panel with touchscreen – full-line monitoring from one point
  • Automatic weighing and filling system – optional add-on for packaging integration

All food-contact parts are SS304 stainless steel. The die change system allows quick shape changeovers – corn puffs, cheese balls, rings, and wheat puffs on the same line with minimal downtime.

Machines in This Line

Cheese Balls Making Machine

Our cheese balls making machine uses a single-screw extruder with a spherical die to produce uniform cheese ball shapes from corn grits or corn flour. The extrudate is cut to size by a rotary knife and then passes through the hot air roasting system for expansion and texture. A seasoning drum applies cheese powder or masala coating uniformly at the end.

  • Spherical die for consistent ball shape and size
  • Compatible with corn grits, corn flour and blended grain mix
  • Hot air roasting – no frying oil required
  • Capacity: 50 / 100 / 250 / 500 kg/hr
  • SS304 food-contact surfaces throughout

Ring Making Machine

The ring making machine uses an annular die that shapes the extrudate into a hollow ring profile. Ring shape is a high-demand format in both fried and baked snack categories – popular as an onion ring base, plain puffed ring, or flavoured extruded ring. The same extruder body handles ring dies and other dies interchangeably, so you do not need a separate machine for each product format.

  • Annular die for ring profile – adjustable inner diameter
  • Suitable for fried or baked ring production
  • Quick die change – switch from rings to puffs or balls without full shutdown
  • Capacity: 50 / 100 / 250 / 500 kg/hr
  • Pairs with continuous fryer or hot air roasting system

Twin Screw Extruder

The twin screw extruder processes a wider range of raw materials than a single-screw machine – including high-moisture inputs, mixed flour blends, and raw materials with higher fat or sugar content. Two co-rotating screws provide better mixing, more consistent gelatinization, and greater control over product texture. Manufacturers who want to run multiple snack formats or work with non-standard raw materials typically choose the twin screw over single screw for this reason.

  • Co-rotating twin screws for uniform mixing and gelatinization
  • Handles corn grits, rice flour, wheat semolina, blended inputs
  • Better texture control than single-screw for complex recipes
  • Compatible with cheese balls, puffs, rings, and kurkure dies
  • Capacity: 100 / 250 / 500 kg/hr
  • PLC-controlled barrel temperature zones

Puff Making Machine

Our puff making machine is a single-screw extruder configured for high-expansion corn and wheat puff production. The machine operates at controlled barrel temperature and screw speed to produce a consistently expanded puff with uniform density. The puff base can be sold plain, coated with salt, or further processed with seasoning for branded flavoured puffs.

  • High-expansion single-screw extruder for corn and wheat puffs
  • Adjustable screw speed and barrel temperature for density control
  • Output suitable for plain base or flavoured puff production
  • Capacity: 50 / 100 / 250 / 500 kg/hr
  • Connects directly to seasoning drum and flavour coating system

Products You Can Make

The same puffed snacks line handles multiple product formats by changing the die:

  • Corn puffs and cheese puffs
  • Wheat and rice puffs
  • Cheese balls and rings
  • Flavoured extruded snacks in various shapes
  • Plain puffed base for further processing or private label supply

Capacity Options

We manufacture puffed snacks lines across four standard capacity ranges:

Capacity Best For
50 kg/hr Good starting point for a new snack unit or product trial
100 kg/hr Suits most growing regional snack manufacturers
250 kg/hr For producers running two shifts

INDIAN PUFFED SNACKS LINE, 100 - 200KG

The puffed snacks processing line handles the full production sequence in one pass — ingredient mixing, extrusion, forming, baking or frying, and seasoning. No manual transfer between stages, no separate machines for each step. One continuous line, one operator managing it.

Raw materials: corn grits, rice flour, millet, soybean flour and blended grain mixes all work. High-temperature extrusion does the puffing — moisture in the grain flashes to steam under pressure and that’s what expands the product. The die shape at the extruder exit determines the finished form — rings, curls, balls, tubes, stars. Swap the die, get a different product.

  • Capacity: 100 to 200 kg/hr — suited to small and mid-scale snack units
  • Handles corn, rice, wheat, millet and mixed grain inputs
  • Inline baking conveyor — hot air roasting, no frying oil needed
  • Seasoning drum for uniform flavour coating
  • Die change system for multiple product shapes on one line
  • SS304 food-contact construction throughout

If you also want a fried puffed snack option on the same floor, see our fryums and pellet frying line — the two can run as separate lines in the same unit.

TWIN SCREW PUFFED EXTRUDER, 100-1000KG

The twin screw puffed extruder gives you a choice in how you mature the product. Two types, different working principle:

Baking type — hot air is the heating medium. Raw grain goes in, hot air roasting develops the texture. No oil at any stage. This is the more common setup in the Indian market right now, mainly because buyers want lower-fat positioning and the running cost per kg is lower without frying oil to manage.

Fried type — fat is the heating medium. Gives a denser, crunchier finish and the flavour profile most Indian consumers recognise. Works well for cheese puffs, masala puffs and products where the fried texture is part of the eating experience.

  • Twin screw design — handles stickier, higher-moisture formulations that single screw extruders struggle with
  • Capacity: 100 to 1000 kg/hr
  • Baking type and frying type configurations both available
  • Die change system — corn puffs, cheese balls, rings, tubes and custom shapes
  • VFD-controlled screw speed for consistent output at varying raw material moisture
  • PLC panel with touchscreen

Runs corn grits, rice flour, wheat semolina and blended mixes. For manufacturers also setting up a Kurkure line on the same floor, the extruder stage uses a similar operating principle — see our Kurkure making machine page. Frequently Asked Questions

What is the price of a puffed snacks processing line in India?

Price depends on capacity and whether you need a single-screw or twin-screw extruder, and whether you add a continuous fryer or hot air roasting system. Call +91 98184 89414 or fill the enquiry form for a detailed quote within 24 hours.

What is the difference between a single screw and twin screw extruder for puffed snacks?

A single-screw extruder handles standard corn grits and rice flour inputs well and is the more economical option for straightforward puffed snack production. A twin screw extruder handles a wider range of inputs including high-moisture blends, gives better texture control, and suits manufacturers running multiple product formats or complex recipes.

Can the same machine make cheese balls, rings, and corn puffs?

Yes. The extruder body is the same machine. You change the die plate to switch between cheese ball, ring, corn puff, and other shapes. Die changeover takes 15–30 minutes. Our machines come with the dies for all shapes you want to run.

Do you provide installation and training outside your factory?

Yes. Our installation team travels to your factory anywhere in India. Installation and operator training are included with every machine at no extra charge. For international buyers, we provide detailed installation documentation and remote support.

What raw materials does the puffed snacks line work with?

Standard inputs include corn grits, rice flour, wheat semolina, and blended grain flour. The twin screw extruder handles a wider range including higher-moisture and mixed-grain inputs. We can advise on exact raw material specifications based on the product you want to produce – call us before finalising your raw material supplier.
